RETAINERS-
If you choose to work with the Jones Practice PLLC on an hourly basis, I will review your needs, your billing options, and prepare a reasonable retainer fee for you.
Retainers are a sum of money that clients pay before the start of work. I hold such retainer fee in trust for the client, and subtract the hourly fees and costs from such retainer fee. Call for a consultation to discuss hourly rates and retainer fees.
FLAT FEES-
Flat fee services are customarily offered to criminal and uncontested divorce clients. The fee is paid prior to the start of services. These fees are determined after the initial consultation in order to ensure you are paying the appropriate amount for your legal needs. The Jones Practice PLLC strives to provide the best service to each client and understand that payment plans may be necessary. Call to discuss payment options during your free phone consultation or during your in person meeting and case evaluation.
CONTINGENCY FEES-
The Jones Practice does handle certain cases on a Contingency Fee basis. Unfortunately, due to the Jones Practice PLLC's commitment to other clients, I cannot offer contingency or deferred billing. The only exception that is offered is for Personal Injury clients.
My fees are very reasonable for quality criminal defense legal representation, but I am definitely not the cheapest attorney (nor the most expensive!) you could hire. The Jones Practice PLLC doesn't sacrifice quality for volume, and it's important to take the necessary time to do everything possible to help each client. With a little budgeting, many clients are able to retain legal counsel.
If you are unable to retain legal services, please contact a local pro-bono association or the Clerk at the court where your case is pending in order to obtain counsel.
BUSINESS LAW-
The Jones Practice PLLC provides quality legal representation to small to mid-size business clients and entrepreneurs. Whether I am helping you incorporate a new business, handle trademark issues, establish basic business contracts, draft employment contracts or negotiate lease agreements, I provide clients with the necessary tools to begin and remain in business.
CRIMINAL LAW-
I understand that bad things happen to good people and that there may be a time when the need arises for criminal representation. I am prepared to protect your freedom in traffic, DUI/DWI, misdemeanor, and felony state and federal court matters. I also have several years of experience in handling family violence and protective order cases.
CRIMES AND PENALTIES
What is a Misdemeanor Charge?
A misdemeanor is an offense that can have a penalty of up to 12 months in jail. Under Virginia law, misdemeanors are divided into four classes (I, II, III, and IV). A Class I Misdemeanor is the most common and most serious of all. Incarceration is typically in a jail in the locality where the crime was committed.
Some typical Class I Misdemeanors I defend include:
Class Fine Max Penalty Example
Class 1 Misdemeanor Up to $2500 12 Months in Jail Assault/ DUI
Class 2 Misdemeanor Up to $1000 6 Months in Jail Aggressive Driving
Class 3 Misdemeanor Up to $500
Class 4 Misdemeanor Up to $250
Unclassified misdemeanors (such as marijuana possession) are misdemeanors with penalties specific to the statute of the crime involved.
The least serious classes of misdemeanors are considered infractions, and the penalty is generally only a fine. Such as a Drunk in Public offense.
Most misdemeanor charges are brought about by issuing a summons from an arresting officer or a warrant issued by a magistrate.
What is a Felony Charge?
A felony is a criminal offense with maximum penalties greater than one year in prison. The most serious charges are felonies, or crimes with multiple prior offenses. Incarceration typically is in a state prison.
Some Felony charges I defend include:
Class Fines Max Penalty
Class 1 Felony Up to $100,000 Death Penalty / Life in Prison
Class 2 Felony Up to $100,000 20 Years to Life in Prison
Class 3 Felony Up to $100,000 5 to 20 Years in Prison
Class 4 Felony Up to $100,000 2 to 10 Years in Prison
Class 5 Felony Up to $2500 1 to 10 Years in Prison
Class 6 Felony Up to $2500 1 to 5 Years in Prison
